The monastery is located at the western side of the island in Pamvotis Lake. Its founders probably belonged to the Stratigopouloi family who settled in Ioannina after the fall of Constantinople to the Latins in 1204. The second name (Ntiliou) refers to a local wealthy family of the Ottoman era.
The monastery has a catholikon and a two-storey cell added to its west side. The church, dated in the late 13rd century, was built with rough cloisonne masonry.
In 1542-43, monks Nephon and Sophronios financed the frescoes, as an inscription on the south wall of the narthex testifies. Those, though not able to compete the ones of Philanthropinon Monastery, are definetely a high quality work of an anomymous artist, also member of the artistic movement of the so-called “Shcool of Nortwestern Greece”.
