It was built in 1506/7 by the brothers Nectarios and Theophanis, members of an old and renowned byzantine family, the Apsarades. The catholikon got wall painted in 1789, while a restroration of the frescoes took place twice, in 1824 and 1891. Only the catholikon survives from the initial complex. It is single-spaced with two three-sided niches in both its northern and southern sides, as well as a narthex to the west. It was built mostly from stone blocks with bricks occasionally inserted. The woodcut icon screen is also dated in 1789, while a few pieces of the older one (16th century) still survive inserted in it. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2016-11-16 13:11:26 Post date GMT: 2016-11-16 11:11:26 Post modified date: 2016-11-18 11:05:48 Post modified date GMT: 2016-11-18 09:05:48 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
